First Day of Class – Spring 2012

January 17, 2012

The start of another semester. Are you ready? Do you have butterflies?

I can remember being excited, but a bit anxious at the start of each semester. What would my professors be like? How about my workload? Will I meet any new friends?

An advantage you have as a student at BC3 is our low student-to-faculty ratio. Instead of taking classes with hundreds of students, on average you will take courses with 17 others. Better yet, you will be taught by full and part time faculty members who are experts in their respective fields – not graduate teaching assistants. Read the rest of this entry »

Holiday Break

December 20, 2011

Halftime of the Steeler game. Still have faith despite being down 6-0. The thing I dislike about Monday Night games is how long they last. And this one was delayed two times with the lights going out in San Francisco. The morning will come way too soon.

Although the Fall semester ended a couple of weeks ago, administrators and staff are still hard at work. All in all, it was a good semester. But a break is much needed.

If we can head into our holiday break with a Steeler win, it would be just dandy!

To the dedicated BC3 faculty, staff, and of course, students – Happy Holidays!

Beautiful Weather @ BC3

November 8, 2011

I love the fall. A new academic year, football (although this past Sunday was not good for the Steelers), and the autumn landscape are just some of the reasons.

Today’s weather is absolutely wonderful – especially on our main campus in Butler.

But this week’s forecast is predicting change. By week’s end, western Pennsylvania will be hit with colder temps, wind and precipitation (perhaps, even snow).  Two weeks ago, the central part of Pennsylvania got whacked with up to several inches of snow. Read the rest of this entry »

$20 million grant

October 3, 2011

What a week!

BC3 learned that Pennsylvania’s 14 community colleges will share in a $20 million Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College & Career Training (TAACCCT) grant. Our share is expected to be about $750,000.

We will partner with our sister institutions in an unprecedented way. By bringing workforce delivery and curriculum development systems to scale for achieving new levels of success with adult students, the primary focus will be for laid-off workers who have little chance of returning to prior wage levels without new credentials.
